FAQ – Rat Trap Bench (rattrapbench.com)
1. Do I need to use bait or poison?
No. Bait attracts rats from neighboring properties and requires constant replacement. Our bench works passively – only rats already moving through the area (along walls and fences) walk inside. You remove them without drawing new rats. Cleaner, safer, and more effective over time.
2. Where should I put the bench?
Place it where people actually sit – restaurant patios, hotel gardens, park plazas, coffee shop sidewalks, near trash bins. Those are exactly the spots where ugly traps cannot go. Rats follow people (food, warmth, shelter), so a normal‑looking bench catches them discreetly. No catch after two weeks? Move it to another hot spot.
3. How many rats does one bench hold?
One bench typically catches 20–50 rats. Install four benches in a row (e.g., along a building wall) and you can remove up to 200 rats. You will see a clear drop in the local rat population within weeks.
4. Is the trap humane?
Yes – fully. The interior cage provides a water nipple (fresh water always available). Rats stay calm, hydrated, and suffer no distress. No poison, no glue, no electricity, no drowning. Our design meets the highest US animal welfare standards for live trapping.
5. What is the price and how do I buy?
Contact us at info@rattrapbench.com for a custom quote. Price depends on how many benches, any custom logos or colors, and whether you want a service contract. We respond quickly.
6. Do you offer service contracts in the US/Canada?
Yes – in select regions across the USA and Canada. Our team replaces the cage, cleans the bench, and disposes of rats according to local laws. You do nothing. Perfect for cities, property managers, and resort operators.
7. Can a business put its logo on a bench?
Absolutely. Businesses can donate a bench and receive advertising space on the side or backrest. Your logo, your message. Great for positive brand visibility while helping create a rat‑free environment.
8. Can a homeowner buy one bench?
Yes, but our primary market is commercial: restaurants, hotels, cities, parks, and resorts. Homeowners are welcome too – just contact us.
9. What if the bench arrives damaged?
Report any damage within 7 days with photos. If it’s a manufacturing defect or shipping damage, we send a free replacement part (wood or stainless steel). Minor scratches on wood are normal – easily touched up with linseed oil (see our maintenance guide).
10. How long will the bench last outdoors?
The outer shell is solid Western Red Cedar treated with a traditional Scandinavian linseed oil & tar system – proven 25+ years outdoors. The stainless steel interior (tunnel, cage, doors) lasts 20+ years. Re‑oil the wood every 5–8 years to extend its life. All parts are replaceable.
11. Are there legal rules for trapping rats in the US/Canada?
Yes – rules vary by state, province, and city. Most jurisdictions allow live trapping with humane traps as long as you check them regularly (every 24–48 hours). Our service contracts meet or exceed these requirements. Check with your local animal control or fish & wildlife department.
12. Can cats, squirrels, or birds get inside?
Very unlikely because we use no bait. The entrance is sized for rats (and occasionally small mice). Cats do not fit. Birds and squirrels avoid dark tunnels with no food smell.
13. How do I empty the cage?
Pull out the lower drawer and slide in a clean cage. Takes less than two minutes. You never touch the rat. With our service contract, we do it for you.
14. What happens to the rats after they are caught?
Most US states and Canadian provinces do not allow relocation of wild rats. Relocated rats almost never survive (they are attacked by other rats, cannot find food/water, and spread diseases). Therefore, we recommend humane euthanasia – carbon dioxide (CO2) chamber, performed by a licensed pest control professional or animal control officer. This is quick, painless, and legal.
If you use our optional service contract, we handle this for you according to your local regulations. We never release rats into unfamiliar areas.
15. Can I test a few benches before buying many?
Yes – we strongly recommend a pilot. Place 2–4 benches at problem spots. You will see results within weeks. Contact us to set up a pilot program.
16. Won’t rats chew through the wooden bench?
No. The outer box is wood, but every interior surface – the tunnel, floor, walls, and cage – is lined with stainless steel. Rats never touch the wood. They cannot chew through steel. The wood stays intact and hygienic.
17. Do you ship fully assembled or flat‑pack?
Both. Fully assembled is ready to use. Flat‑pack (unassembled) saves up to 50% on shipping – all parts come in a flat box with a photo‑illustrated manual. Assembly takes 20–30 minutes with basic tools (included).
18. Why wood instead of plastic or metal for the outer box?
Two reasons. First, wood is a natural insulator. Metal or dark plastic benches turn into ovens in summer sun – that causes heat stress for trapped rats. Wood stays much cooler, even in direct sun. Second, wood looks warm and natural, fitting any environment (parks, downtowns, resorts, even indoors). With our Scandinavian coating, it lasts just as long as plastic (25+ years). Plastic or steel outer boxes are available on request, but wood is our standard for animal welfare and design.
